Spinal Flow: your questions answered

Everything you might be wondering before your first session.

hands on spine

When I tell people I practise Spinal Flow, the first response is usually, "What's that?" It's still new to many people, so here are the questions I'm asked most often.

What is Spinal Flow?

Spinal Flow is a gentle, hands-on technique. I use light touch on specific points along your sacrum and cranium to help your body recognise the stress and tension it's been holding, and give it the opportunity to let go. Spinal Flow works directly with the nervous system to release physical stress, shift chemical stress and ease or work with emotional stress.

Is it like a massage or chiropractic adjustment?

No. There's no cracking, pushing or deep pressure. The touch is light and gentle, and you stay fully clothed the whole time.

What happens in a session?

We start with an initial session that lasts 60 minutes. It encompasses a chat about how you're feeling and what's been going on for you. We do a postural assessment and then determine where blockages are along the spine. Then you lie face down on a comfortable table while I work along your spine. Afterwards, we take a few minutes to talk about what you noticed and put together a treatment plan. Any follow-up sessions are 20-30 minutes.

What does it feel like?

Everyone's experience is a little different. Many people feel deeply relaxed, and some drift off. Others notice warmth, tingling, a deeper breath, or an urge to sigh, stretch or move. Some people feel emotional as their body lets go. All of these responses are welcome, and so is feeling nothing much at all.

Who is it for?

Spinal Flow is for anyone who feels stressed, overwhelmed, tense or just not quite themselves. You don't need to know anything about it beforehand. If you have an injury, health condition or are pregnant, please let me know before your session.

How will I feel afterwards?

Many people tell me they feel lighter, calmer and more like themselves. Some feel a little tired and want to rest. I recommend drinking water, going gently for the rest of the day and noticing how you feel over the next few days.

How many sessions will I need?

As everyone is different, their outcome for results will be different. I can’t tell you how many sessions you would need to feel better because it depends on your commitment and frequency of sessions as well as how long the blockages have really been there for and the continued stressors that you engage day to day.

Can Spinal Flow replace medical care?

No. Spinal Flow supports your wellbeing alongside, not instead of, care from your doctor or other health professionals.

Still have questions?

I'm always happy to chat. Send me a message, or book your first session when you're ready.
